The international conference «Aesthetics of Early Sound Film: Media Change Around 1930» aims at a deeper understanding of the various aesthetics emerging in the early sound film era, with a focus on the films’ fundamentally experimental and inventive character. A vast variety of panel presentations, followed by discussions will shed light on a transnational period that embraced its ‘fruitful uncertainty’.
The conference will be held from June 3rd to 5th 2021. Due to the current circumstance of Covid-19, it will be an online only event. It is organized by the Department of Film Studies at the University of Zurich as part of the doctoral program «Film, Photography, and Other Visual Media», a joint program with the University of Lausanne (UNIL), funded by swissuniversities.
