Spotlight Audiovisual Data

Von der Sammlung zur Analyse in digitalen Infrastrukturen

This one-day workshop brings together researchers, librarians, and developers from the University of Zurich (UZH), the University Library (UB), and the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) to explore current strategies and tools for the management and analysis of audiovisual (AV) data and collections. The event complements ongoing efforts to digitize and sustainably curate AV data and metadata stored at UZH and UB, and to make them accessible for research andteaching.

In the first part, we will focus on approaches to digitization and digital curation, discussing workflows, metadata standards, and infrastructural challenges. This includes the presentation of current projects at UZH and UB related to the integration and maintenance of AV collections.

The second part will be dedicated to tools and methods for analyzing digitized and born-digital materials, with a particular focus on in-house developments and collaborations within the DSI. This includes tools developed at the Department of Film Studies and at LiRI in collaboration with the Visual Analytics research group at TIB Hannover. Among them are Videoscope (a tool to analyze and query multimodal corpora), VIAN (a system for computer-assisted video annotation), and TIB-AV-A (a platform for semi-automatic video analysis). Participants will have the opportunity to test and discuss selected tools hands-on and to exchange ideas about interoperable, sustainable, and open infrastructures for audiovisual research data.

The workshop aims to foster collaboration across departments and disciplines, strengthen the link between infrastructure and research, and support the development of a shared digital ecosystem for multimodal analysis at UZH.
