Film Talks

From 2001 to 2009, the Department of Film Studies organized the discussion series «Reden über Film» («Talking about Film») in collaboration with Solothurner Filmtage (the annual festival of Swiss film). Since 2010, the talks have been continued by the SWISS CINEMA NETWORK (see their website for up-to-date information on events).

These public panel discussions aim to foster a dialog on Swiss filmmaking and its international context. Experts discuss current issues in film politics, economics, history, and aesthetics. Some topics are brought to the public’s attention for the first time through these talks, thus laying the foundation for further debate. Above all, «Reden über Film» at the Solothurn festival is always also a forum for exchange between film practitioners and scholars.

Under the label «Schreiben über Film» («Writing about Film»), new Swiss publications are also presented in Solothurn: scholarly and essayistic works, mainly originating from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne, the Zurich University of the Arts, and the Swiss film yearbook CINEMA.
